Traits associated with lodging resistance in cereals include plant height and stem wall thickness. Nutrients can play a key role in conferring resistance, but to what extent?

In terms of nutrients, lodging is mainly associated with Si, K and Ca deficiencies. When these elements are applied at the right and balanced rates you can prevent lodging associated to crop nutrition. However, other factors such as variety, plant density, shading, humidity and of course wind must also be considered.
